Foundation donates $3K to fund
Warming Hands and Hearts helps families during winter months

Michael C. Lewis

MARTINSBURG — An area fund designed to supplement state-offered heating assistance programs got a boost Thursday with a $3,000 donation from the Carl M. Freeman Foundation.

Molly Knopf, the outreach director at the foundation, said the Warming Hands and Hearts fund is the “perfect program” to contribute to because 100 percent of its donations are distributed to families in need. The foundation gave the fund the same amount last year.

“The foundation is thrilled to be in this area, and we hope our presence inspires other businesses and individuals to give back to the community,” Knopf said.

To date, more than $7,000 have been raised this year to offset heating costs for families in Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties. Last year, the program raised nearly $11,000 and kept the heat on for 105 households. In the last two years, the heat was kept on in 297 homes that included 372 children...
