Feds Investigate Link Between Maynard, Massey
According to a Charlestion paper (The Charleston Gazette), a federal investigation is underway in Charleston about a controversial case involving a West Virginia Supreme Court justice, and Massey Energy.

The article cites a Wall Street Journal report that says investigators are looking into the relationship between Chief Justice Elliot "Spike" Maynard, and Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship.

Pictures surfaced recently showing the two together in Monaco in July of 2006.

At the time, several cases involving Massey Energy were either being heard by the Supreme Court, or on the way there.

Maynard told the paper that the Journal article is mistaken, and he doesn't believe such an investigation is taking place.

Maynard is up for re-election. Candidates for his WV Supreme Court seat are:

Democrats:
Bob Bastress (Monongalia County)
Menis E. Ketchum (Cabell County)
Elliott E. "Spike" Maynard (Mingo County)
Margaret Workman (Kanawha County)

Republicans:
Beth Walker (Kanawha County)

Any idea which one of the Democratic candidates has the best chance against Maynard in the Tuesday, May 13 primary?
