Kessler Endorses Weeks For Governor
Edited on Tue May-20-08 10:33 AM by Lasher
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Just days after Delegate Mel Kessler lost to Governor Joe Manchin in the democrat primary election, he's ready to endorse republican Russ Weeks for Governor.

Kessler says "I'm going to financially support him. Verbally support him. If he needs somebody to ride up east or north with him, I will support him. If he doesn't want me there, he can borrow my car. That's how supportive I am of him. Regardless of how nice the governor calls and talks to me, there's corruption going on that needs cleaned up."

Weeks says he is grateful for Kessler's backing.

He also says "Delegate Kessler will not be the only Democrat supporting my campaign's effort to bring integrity and accountability back to state government."

Lookee here, we've got our very own Zell Miller at the state level.

1. Wasn't Manchin the head of "Democrats for Cecil Underwood"?
Karma's a bitch.

How bad is Weeks, anyway?

2. Manchin is a DINO for sure but at least he's not running as a Republican
But having Manchin as Governor is still not anywhere nearly as bad as having a Republican in that office.

And boy, wasn't Underwood a piece of work? I remember when James Earl Jones came to Charleston. I got my picture taken with Jones and have ever since had it sitting on my desk. Anyway, Underwood did some kind of a reception thing for him, and welcomed him as James Earl Ray. I thought I would die of embarrassment.

Help me out. I'm intrigued about the 'Democrats for Cecil Underwood' organization. I unsuccessfully searched for something that tied Manchin to the organization. Can you furnish a link to anything like that?

3. A couple links
One from DU in which it is mentioned as an aside:

And:

Also, primary runner up, Joe Manchin broke his primary campaign pledge to support the party's nominee and actively supported Underwood.

If you look back on his comeback from the bitter defeat he sustained against Charlotte Pritt when he was part of the Democrats for Underwood movement to now, not only would he be the clear favorite for any open Senate seat and more than that, he is on the short list for the vice president’s position at the ’08 convention.

4. OK thanks.

I remembered he wanted Pritt out of the way but didn't know (or forgot) about his involvement in Democrats for Underwood. I think I'll run this by Democratic headquarters to give them a chance for rebuttal.

I sure hope Manchin doesn't get the nod for the Democratic VP slot. You would think that after Gore/Lieberman 2000 we would be more careful to pick someone who can be counted on to be a Democrat.
