Any actions planned against the plans of this union busting governor?
Has anyone, anywhere, heard of any actions planned to demonstrate against this criminal plan of the governor's? Is everyone still in shock and not knowing where to turn?

Will people please post here if they find out something. We CANNOT just take this meekly. I have been a teacher/administrator for 28+ years. What a damn kick in the face. I am not greedy, I have given my all to my job, and planned to keep working a few more years. But now, who knows? There may be no jobs. We've had meager raises, and jeez, I work 60+ hours a week.

Taking away the right to bargain? Is there no one who will stand up to this?? If so, I want to join.

11. AFT-WI is sponsoring bus rides
Check their Web site. I'll be driving from Appleton/Oshkosh.

Here's part of an AFT email from a UWSP math professor:

Dear Colleagues,

We have two options. We can watch UW shrivel and die, or we can go fight for the University we love. Governor Walker's proposal has not yet passed, and in politics, it isn't over until the actual vote. There is still hope, but we have to act quickly and decisively. Several Republican state legislators voted to extend us collective bargaining rights. These moderates might still be prevailed upon to save the UW system.

Please join us for a road trip to Madison on Tuesday or Wednesday (or both) next week (15 and 16 Feb.). AFT-W is providing bus transportation to give us the opportunity to rally and even speak directly to legislators. Please also call your friends and colleagues. If you are willing to call a short list of
people, just contact your campus organizer. All are welcomed. Busses will leave early each day.

I know this is a lot to ask of you. As a rule, we don't miss class, even if we're sick. I taught class an hour after my son was born. But this is important. We've fought for this for 40 years, and we're about to be sent back to the 1800's. Do it for your colleagues, present and future.

I really think we are talking about the demise of the UW System as we know it. We owe it to ourselves, and we owe it to ourstudents. Most of them were born in the 1990's. They don't knowhow to collectively fight injustice and oppression. Let's show them.

When the British rulers of India restricted the production of salt, Ghandi walked 240 miles to the sea and, in violation of the law, gathered salt from the coast. Will you make salt with us?

Thanks much,
Andy Felt

12. Info on Actions in Madison and reps to contact::
We Can Defeat This, But We Must Mobilize Now:

There is no time to wait and see what happens. There is no tomorrow and there are no excuses. We have LESS THAN A WEEK to organize and prevent this bill from passing, so we have to turn out en masse now, and we have to turn out with force against these draconian measures and attacks against public sector workers. In order to do this, thousands of people MUST turn out for the following events:

• Monday afternoon, February 14th: Meet us EITHER in front of the Memorial Union at 11:30 A.M. or at the Capitol at 12:00 P.M. to deliver thousands of signed Valentine's Cards asking Gov. Walker not to cut the UW Budget, and to stop attacking those who make the UW work.

• Monday, February 14th at 5:30pm: Come to the TAA's Emergency General Membership meeting in Humanities 2650 to get a political update and to discuss our direct action campaign.

• Tuesday, February 15th and Wednesday, February 16th – DAYS OF ACTION: Meet us at the Capitol starting at 11:00 A.M. to rally with other union members, workers, and students. At 1:00 P.M. we will be meeting with legislators to convince them to vote against this legislation.

Who to Contact:

There are seven Republican Senators that have voted pro-union in the past and that need to be convinced by people voting in their districts to reject this bill. If you are from or know people from these districts, you and they need to start contacting the following Senators. Email AND Call them ASAP and let them know you do not support the Governor's Budget Repair Bill. Here’s a link to help you find out who your representatives are, and to help you with talking points:

State Senator John Erpenbach will be having a listening session at Middleton High School Sunday Feb 13: “Governor Walker wants to introduce this proposal today and pass it tomorrow. The people of this state deserve better. Governor Walker should be bringing people together rather than tearing this state apart. I am hopeful we will be able to make changes to the bill to at least remove the non-fiscal items.” Senator Erpenbach will hold a listening session this Sunday at Middleton High School at 4pm 2100 Bristol St, Middleton in the Courtyard Commons.

16. For those in Northwest Wisconsin

STOP THE ATTACK ON WORKERS RIGHTS!

Wednesday, Feb. 16.

A rally in support of public employees is being planned for Wednesday evening, February 16th, in Rice Lake. The purpose of the rally is to draw attention to the proposed budget repair bill, which will strip state and local public employees of their right to bargain.

Meet at Badger Brew (across from Marketplace) at 6:00 p.m.

Rally and vigil from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.

We’ll have some signs, but please feel free to bring your own.

The rally will occur in front of Roger Rivard’s real estate office on Main Street.

We are encouraging people to bring their families and keep the rally polite and respectful.

Please contact your friends on FACEBOOK and invite them to join us.

18. I'll bet there are a lot of union members who voted for that scumbag.
I worked in the building trades and I know a lot of those guys listened to the conservanazi bu$hit on hate AM radio day-in, day-out. They vote straight republiklan ticket while drawing a union wage. Just remember that. The AFL-CIO should do something. I'll bet right now, charlie psycho, the goofy witch in the morning and the Hispanic hater in the evening will be demonizing the unions.
What the union should do is start a progressive radio station in Milwaukee and Madison. Just like WCPT in Chicago with Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, and Thom Hartmann. I enjoy listening to WCPT when I can get reception which is most of the day.
Demonize Walker all day and all night.
