Leave M & I and go where?
Are there any non-lowlife banks in Northeastern Wisconsin?

1. What about Evergreen Credit Union?
I've seen their name, don't really know anything about them.

5. Credit Union... I see a theme developing, here.
If you could say what part of NE Wisconsin, there might be some more specific suggestions.

6. I'll join the chorus - find a good credit union
Edited on Thu Mar-17-11 10:03 AM by sybylla
They are "member-owned" cooperative institutions, and while not all created equal, they are a damn sight better than any bank.

And I say this as someone who's worked for both.

Edited to add...the UW Credit Union has branches all over the south eastern quadrant of the state. There are others in other parts that cover a wide area, like RCU in the western half. Because they cover a large area, you would have access to your money in lots of places. If that isn't important to you, you can find a smaller, local credit union. Most have fairly broad membership requirements, some pretty narrow, but you should be able to find one in your area to suit your needs.

7. Credit union here too. You may find a small indy bank, but most are getting
creamed in this economy. Our only one in my town folded two weeks ago. The new credit union is going strong though.

10. Credit unions cannot give directly to campaigns, but, like M&I, their employees can
individually or through PACs like the WI Credit Union Legislative Action Fund (WCULAF), which did support pukes and the RPW heavily, from what I see on WDC. Looking at their reports at the GAB, they did give to a few Dems, but the Dems returned the contributions in favor of support from other PACs.

WCULAF reports for last year can be found here: http://cfis.wi.gov/Public/Registration.aspx?page=FiledReports

You can take a look at which employees from which credit unions gave to the WCULAF. Few gave a significant enough amount to have to list their employers.

If there's a particular credit union someone wants to use, find out who's on the board of directors and who the officers are and search for their contributions. Feel free to hold them to the same fire as we're holding M&I.

12. interesting post on Heartland page...
Political Contributions

People have been checking to see who specifically has contributed to Governor Scott Walker's campaign and have found a contribution from Heartland Credit Union. If you dig just a little bit further you'll see that the contribution is from Heartland Credit Union in Springfield, Illinois.

While a bit confused with why a credit union in Illinois is contributing to a campaign in Wisconsin, we are certain of this: It is extremely rare that Heartland Credit Union (Wisconsin) contributes financially to political campaigns of any kind. The only issues we as an organization might get involved in would be those that effect the well-being of financial cooperatives (credit unions) and other cooperatives.

Specifically, we have not contributed to the Scott Walker campaign or any campaign.

If you have any questions or comments, contact Robin Marohn at 1.800.362.3944 ext. 7328

Sounds like one to look into!
