Overheard 2 Repubs speaking last night
They were naming off Democratic Senators that recall petitions are being circulated for...

They were claiming "victory" in getting Holperin recalled. I just sat between them and grinned...it drove them crazy..the said "He knows something, what do you know? What have you heard?" I said, "I'm just an ignorant Democrat, I obviously don't know anything." They shut up.

Did the Utah group get enough sigs for Holperin?

I haven't heard anything..

1. They made this claim on Saturday
http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/article/20110419/WDH0101/104190458/Group-Holperin-recall-go?odyssey=tab|topnews|img|FRONTPAGE

The Holperin recall committee was required to gather at least 15,960 signatures of people living within Holperin's district. Bob Rajek, chairman of the Republican Party of Lincoln County, said Monday that he believed more than 20,000 signatures had been collected but did not have an exact number.

Kim Simac, organizer of the recall committee, did not return a call seeking comment Monday.

Simac first announced the group's plans Saturday during a tea party rally in Madison.

2. Thanks for the link
Repubs were basing their opinion of the "fact" that Holperin was/is "advertising like crazy".

This Utah group bothers me. They're pretty secretive and knowing that they are involved with Americans Against Immigration Amnesty and they share the same "Executive Director" but there is almost no information about where they are getting their funding. They brought people into the state to collect sigs locally but I don't know any more about it than that. What bothers me is that they may have "national" connections and have a much more sophisticated strategy than we think they do...Paranoia in politics is usually a good thing.

8. Doesn't seem right that people outside the state can be involved like this
dirty gop.

3. The Utah group may not be doing so well
Their name is American Recall Coalition. Holperin isn't one of theirs, nor is Hansen (they never got the paperwork straightened out). It seems they still have some administrative details missing for some of the other six. Of their original efforts to file, only one was done right. http://gab.wi.gov/elections-voting/recall

As far as "advertising," Alberta Darling sent us a glossy missive over the weekend to let us know she's standing up for the taxpayers, and she opened a campaign office a few weeks ago. She knows it's coming.

4. Show me the sigs.
These claims keep popping up, but so far we haven't seen any of them hauling petitions down to the GAB.

Time to put up, or STFU. Pukes.

10. Remember who votes.
They can get all the damn signatures they want. I don't think any Democratic voters are going to forget our Senators standing up for us when it comes time for us to stand up for them.

12. I say that all the time.
When a senate district has about 180,000 people in it, getting 20,000 sigs in 60 days isn't insurmountable even in the most challenging districts. It's whether or not you can beat them in the election.

Our Dems have a lot of people on their side that weren't there last time. I'm betting that though they'll have to run a good campaign, they'll all come out of it victors if we join in the fight.

11. The Holperin Recall group
Edited on Wed Apr-20-11 09:37 AM by ewagner
claims to be heading to Madison today to file recall papers against Jim Holperin.

btw: Just noticed that the head of the Holperin Recall committee was Kim Sumac. She was apparently a speaker at the Madison Tea Party Rally and is the current "darling" of the tea-drinking set locally.

13. Dem group called my house tonight while I was at work (don't know particulars)
but said they need help with signature verification as the Cons are ready to file recalls against 3 Dem Senators. They did tell my husband that it was an out of state group. Somehow, that just doesn't even seem legal. Anyway, I'll do what I can. I suspect they are up to no good as usual. Working Wisconsinites pull signatures on our own time and dime for weeks and they get paid out-of-staters to come up with sigs. Disingenuous at best.

Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it.

14. Look for many of their signatures to be invalid
The out-of-staters don't care about anything but their paycheck and will be gone before the petitions are challenged. The volunteers on our side put in more loving care on their work. The difference will show.

17. That might be worth looking into
That might be worth looking into. I seem to remember that it wasn't legal to offer anything of value in exchange for a signature. You can pay the person collecting signatures, but you canot pay a person to sign. (Kind of like when registering people to vote--you can pay a person to register other people, but you can't pay a person to register himself.)
