1. You might want to narrow that down.
What kind of job? What do you do?

Any idea where you want to relocate to?

my field was in journalism, writing, editing, public relations, etc...I'm in the eastern U.S. and most of the Canadians I meet are from Toronto and have wonderful things to say about the city...I thought that would be my first shot...

i should add that i know very little French...

8. Toronto would be perfect then.
It has the HQ of all the media - print, TV etc.

Over 5 million in the GTA, and is the largest city in Canada.

2. I'd recommend going to the Canadian Immigration site. It is very informative.
We're considering some changes, too.

3. Just settled in Vancouver
My partner and I just settled in Vancouver and the job situation isn't so great. We've been here a month and have found jobs, but not in the fields we have experience in. I've sent out over 2 dozen resumes and have only heard back from 2.

The Service Canada job site is equivalent to the job service site in the states.

4. most of us would be happy for any job in any field!
Add to that not having to worry about health care costs, we would be just fine with any job. We both have Masters's degrees in Behavioral Science (counseling, social work degrees) and can't find jobs in America. My husband is British by birth, (is not an American citizen), we are wondering if it isn't time to hang it up and move across the pond. Nothing left here but a wusie President who has once again bowed to bullies with guns and left us without health care options.

7. i've looked at it...
i did the questionnaire and passed (barely)...What I want to do is try to secure a job before going, instead of just showing up cold and trying to find my way...

9. That is exactly what we are doing.
Im in the process now of seeing what parts of my teaching credentials can transfer and what courses I'll need to complete. I'll complete as many of my required Canadian courses online while still stuck here. We're been talking about doing this for a couple of years, and seeing people actually protest health care and carrying loaded weapons to protests is just the final straw. We're done.

10. I know. My husband would be willing to move to possibly Thunder Bay. Things are
not going to ease up here I fear. How is Thunder Bay area? Can a person contribute even though they are older but has a retirement income?

11. Try this link:

eluta

I've found a number of good possibilities in my field (mental health & addictions), although in BC, things have dried up dramatically in the past 6 mos.

On a related note, I just found out today that the CIC has requested our passports so that they can insert our visas allowing us to "land" officially as permanant residents! Took 18 mos. from the date our application was submitted (6 mos. prep before- we're slow). Now that the waiting has ended, the hard work begins: inventorying all our stuff, selling our house, finding jobs in BC. Nevertheless, I'm thrilled! I look forward to the peace of mind knowing I'm not paying taxes for illegal wars, wiretaps, torture, salaries/pensions for torturers, or bailouts for banks/predatory lenders. It'll be nice to live in a place where "I've got mine, screw you" is not a common mentality.

I will not consider myself an expatriate, but rather, a patriot-in-exile.
