Oshawa Plant to Build New Buick

General Motors has delivered some welcome news to Ontario’s auto plants.

The company has confirmed it will start production of the 2011 Buick Regal in the first quarter of 2011 at its Oshawa plant.

The new Regal is a midsize sport sedan based on the design of GM's Opel Insignia. The Insignia was selected European car of the year for 2009.

The Regal is the fourth new vehicle in the production commitment that was part of the agreement between GM and the Canadian and Ontario governments.

The Oshawa plant has been humming since June. That’s when they started running overtime shifts to produce the Chevrolet Camaro. Oshawa will also start production of the Camaro convertible in 2011.

General Motors also recently added a third shift at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, and introduced flexible transmission production at its St. Catharines facility.
