what a bang-up job Michael Ignatieff did today. I'm not actually hoping for the Liberal vote to collapse nation-wide, you know. ;) Something from the archives. How many Liberals here had heard of Michael Ignatieff in 2003? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=290496&mesg_id=291496And from an election period more recently: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=190&topic_id=10053&mesg_id=10209

A very good presentation and well organised.
The platform seemed middle of the road. It does seem like an attempt to move. I don't wish to rain on the platform. Personally I hope the future has more for us.
But if your time horizon is long enough your leverage becomes larger.
At the moment my target is to see Harper's seats decreased by about 20%.

3. Why no reversal of Harper law-and-order Bills? |
|
Something that bothers me about the Lib platform is that it speaks to, and Ignatieff constantly speaks about, the insanity of spending more on prisons at a time when crime is going down.
Fine, I agree.
However, I have never heard Ignatieff or anyone associated with the Libs promise that they will repeal/reverse the changes Harper made that are fueling the need for increased prison space.
I know the Libs voted for many of these Bills for tactical reasons, so as not to trigger a premature election.
Okay, but they can't have it both ways, they can't be opposed to spending more on prisons, while apparently planning to do nothing to repeal the Bills that will increase the size of the prison population.
Far as I can tell, not a single reporters has ever asked about this. Sigh...
