Quebec language agency to go after companies with English names
MONTREAL—Decades after first seeking to ban English from storefront windows, Quebec’s language inspectors will once again embark on a campaign to boost the visibility of French on commercial signs.

The campaign, which will be launched later this fall, targets large corporations looking to break into the Quebec market.

Officials fear that, if left unchecked, big-box stores and their stubbornly Anglophone names will undermine Quebec’s status as a francophone society.

“Because of globalization, big-box stores are coming to Quebec more and more and they are using their brand names,” Louise Marchand, president of the Office quebecois de la langue francaise, told The Canadian Press.

1. Sorry, but I say, ENFORCE, ENFORCE, ENFORCE!!
I sincerely hope the French Language police squad quadruple their efforts to reinforce Quebec language laws to ENSURE that the box stores and any other global entities comply. And for that matter, I'd legislate a good many other regulations these entities would be forced to comply with else "no go." I would soooooooooooooooooooooo do that if I thought for a nanosecond that these wretched companies would retreat from Quebec. If only there were things the rest of Canada could do to get rid of the box stores which have, in essence, brought our standard of living down. Win in the short term but lose in the long term.
