Andy Coulson quits as No 10 communications chief
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12251456

The prime minister's communications chief Andy Coulson has resigned.

Mr Coulson has faced pressure after revelations about phone hacking by News of the World journalists while he was editor of the newspaper.

Last week David Cameron defended him, saying he was doing "a very good job".

Mr Coulson quit as editor in 2007 saying he took ultimate responsibility for the scandal but denied knowing phone hacking was taking place.

2. Cameron found out that Coulson couldn't ride this one out.
The Fleet Street non-aggression pact certainly allowed some cover, but it prolonged the inevitable.

Interesting that they chose the same day as Blair's testimony to release the bad news. Still it doesn't make much difference as Milliband will make more mileage of the Coulson case in the weeks to come. Labour will be in a good mood, the news networks aren't mentioning the fall-out from Johnson's resignation.

3. His fingers must be very numb from clinging to that ledge for so long.
Still, I guess tenacity is a "must" for Murdochites.

4. Good
It does say something about Cameron that he considered ANY ex-News-of-the-Screws-editor, let alone one associated with such a scandal, as a suitable communications chief.

8. BBC says that Trinity Mirror are also accused
I suspect it won't be long before Associated Newspapers and Northern & Shell are also accused.
