Swedish Feminist Party May Contest 2006 Election
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 04:50 AM by Stockholm
STOCKHOLM - Swedish feminists, accusing their Nordic nation of failing to live up to its egalitarian image, launched their own party on Monday and said it may contest parliamentary elections next year.

The founders of the Feminist Initiative said they would decide in September whether to fight in the 2006 elections, a move analysts say could take votes from the ruling Social Democrats and their allies, the Green Party and the Left Party.

"I personally believe it (that the group will run)," said Gudrun Schyman, one of Sweden's best-known politicians and formerly the head of the Left Party.

"I think that we will get lots of support and if we do, of course we will stand."

The government and support parties are not happy as they fear the votes will be drawn from their parties.

I say about time and it will make the election much more interesting!

this will take even more votes from the social democrats. Havent they been losing support recently, because of the tsunami and stuff?

BTW, in the last couple of days I have noticed a rise of Sweden releted news in the papers and some of them are just weird.

One thing that struck me as bit odd was, when I read that Perssons government wants raise the cost of haircuts for men, so there would be no discrimination.

The latest what I have read is that Sweden will ban bodybuilding for all of it's prisoners, because it promotes macho prison culture. I'm just puzzled by this. I work out my self and I find it the best way for unburdening agression. To me it just seems very counter productive to limit the hobbys of the inmates.

These are just some observations I have made - thought I would share them with you. :D
