Berlin leftists aim to thwart neo-Nazis on 8 May
BERLIN - Leftist groups in Berlin announced on Tuesday their aim to try to thwart a planned demonstration by the neo-Nazi NPD party on 8 May, the 60th anniversary date of Germany's capitulation ending World War Two in Europe.

A spokesman for the '8 May Alliance' of leftist groups said they would use "every means" to prevent the NPD march and expected 5,000 persons from around Germany to come to Berlin to help them.

The aim is to surround the central Alexanderplatz square with so many counter-demonstrators that the National Democratic Party (NPD) will have no chance to stage their march along the historic Unter den Linden boulevard, he said.

Primarily the leftists will stage sit-in blockades, but other tactics may also be considered, he added.

4. We did it !
BERLIN (Reuters) - A neo-Nazi march in Berlin was stopped by thousands of anti-fascist demonstrators on Sunday after a tense standoff that overshadowed Germany's ceremonies marking the end of World War Two in Europe 60 years ago.

Berlin police said 6,000 demonstrators opposed to the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) crowded into streets around Alexanderplatz square where 3,300 right-wing extremists gathered to protest what they called a German "cult of guilt".

Eager to prevent the violence that flares when leftists try to stop far-right marches, authorities first ordered the NPD to stay at Alexanderplatz behind a buffer zone of barricades and police. The NPD later decided to abandon the march.

2. Damn..
Sounds like a reenactment of the Weimar republic. When 'leftists' would fight in the streets w/ the Nazi 'brownshirts' .. Hopefully the outcome will be different this time.

It's the extremists just below them in Austria that concern me.
