sorry to ask a stupid (or repetitive) question: anyone know about
french immigration
my grandparents were french citizens (who emigrated to us) and i cant seem to find a straightforward q&a that answers if that gives me any eligibility for citizenship

i know for most countries it probably doesnt give you anything but just wanted to findout as i am interested - like so many others - to leave this country

of course i would be glad to move to canada or any number of other countries but i would like to find out my best options

and if you have plenty of money i guess you can move lots more places but thats not my situation just yet

thanks for any guidance or website suggestions
ive looked and theres lots of information but nothing on my specific question so far but ill keep looking

pm me if you like
peace friends

If your grandparents were born in France and were French citizens, you can go through a process to petition for citizenship. I do not know the exact details, though.

My grandparents were from France as well. My grandfather was born in Paris and was a professor there, however my great-grandfather emigrated to France from Istanbul.

My grandmother was born in Lille and was neighbors with the DeGaulle family, and had recollections of Charles DeGaulle as a small boy before he was shipped off to private school in Paris.

My grandfather had university contacts in the US and he insisted that they emigrate here in 1939 - as Jews he feared what would be in store for them if they didn't. My grandmother didn't want to come. I'm glad he prevailed.

Where is your family from?

3. thank you kzoodem
from what i understand they were from strasbourg
and if i recall correctly they were married in the us though thinking about that im not sure why

they are both passed away more than 15 yrs ago and so i dont know a lot about their backgrounds
clearly i need to ask some family the specifics but you know how it is
they were private and didnt talk about family stuff too much from what i remember and really no personal information
the only way i recall they were married over here is because i saw a copy of their small wedding announcement

your family clearly has a colorful and exciting history

thank you for the information
have you looked into this also and thats how you know i can petition

5. Yes, I have done some very preliminary research....
I haven't pursued it in-depth, but from what I understand if you can provide verification that your parents were born in and held citizenship in an EU nation, you can petition for citizenship in that country.

If memory serves me correctly, there may be other qualifying factors, but I have no idea how extensive they are.

but that will get you in just about anywhere

thank you for the information
i still havent found how it works but i imagine regardless its an extensive process

best wishes to you
