Nuclear leasing
Wonderful.... Howard's off boot licking again

From The Age

ACTING Prime Minister Mark Vaile has left the door open for Australia to take nuclear waste from uranium it sells to other countries.

Prime Minister John Howard is preparing to meet with US President George W Bush and senior members of his administration in Washington in coming days with energy, including nuclear power and potential liquid natural gas exports to the United States, on the agenda.

In particular, nuclear fuel leasing - where uranium is leased rather than sold to countries and the fuel is taken back for disposal by the supply country - is expected to be discussed.

So now we become a quarry and a garbage dump without even having the benefit of using the energy extracted. Perhaps next they'll let us sell them clean water and take the sewage back.

1. That's one that I'd get out on the street to protest.
I'd like to think this is one thing that Australians wouldn't accept
without a fight. Even Howard supporters can't be that stupid - can
they?

2. A red herring?
I think this is just a red herring to distract from the major issue here – selling Australian uranium to India. The Shrub made a deal with India, so he calls on his best buddy Johnny to provide the means with which to implement it, seeing as we have one-third of the world’s uranium. To hell with our policy of not selling uranium to countries that are not signatories to the NNPT.

Johnny has already guaranteed that if we sell to India, our uranium will be used only for good and not for evil, namely energy and not weapons, and the whole process will be carefully monitored. What a joke! Why would Australia set up an inspection process to oversee the use of ‘our’ uranium? It’s a ludicrous suggestion, but that’s how it’s going to be spun. And we’ll all be so grateful that Johnny won’t have this country used as a dumping ground (which he never had any intention of doing anyway), that we’ll accept the spin like the sheep we’ve become under 10 years of this mind-numbing government.

Every time Johnny boy brown noses with the Shrub, Australia ends up more and more compromised and I for one am bloody tired of it.
