Silverchair, Oils back to help appeal
Two of Australia's biggest bands of the past two decades, Midnight Oil and Silverchair, will re-form for a tsunami benefit show called WAVEAID at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 29.

They will join some of Australia's biggest acts, including Powderfinger, the John Butler Trio, Nick Cave, the Waifs, the Finn Brothers, Missy Higgins and Pete Murray in the eight-hour concert from 2pm.

The Wrights (featuring members of Jet, the Living End, Grinspoon, Powderfinger, Spiderbait, You Am I and Dallas Crane) will perform Stevie Wright's classic Australian hit Evie Parts I, II and III.

"We are highly motivated to join fellow Australian performers in what will be a momentous occasion," said Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett, who was elected Labor MP for Kingsford Smith in the federal election. "The tsunami is a disaster of a proportion that is hard for us to comprehend in Australia."

What a combination. silverchair hit the depths of boring drudginess as the Oils consistantly soared to great heights...

1. At least we've got left wing politicians
... that can seriously rock. Even if they can't win elections.

Excellent lineup. Surprised all those young whippersnappers know Evie Parts I II & III :-)

And FWIW, I agree with your assessment of Silverchair.

You're not a Sydney Kings fan are you with a nick like Violet_Crumble?

2. Damn. Where's Guy Sebastian's name in lights??
It won't be a success unless he's there to warble 'Climb Every Mountain'! ;)

I'm thinking about making the trek to Sydney on the 29th. Apart from getting to see the Oils play again, I love Powderfinger and the John Butler Trio..

Okay, what's the connection between the Sydney Kings and Violet Crumbles? The only team I'm close to being a fan of was Manly before Murdoch and his attempt to destroy the game. I'm merely addicted to Violet Crumbles, hence the nick...

Violet...

4. The Violet Crumbles
... used to be the unkind nickname given to the Sydney kings basketball team. It was a reference to their team colours of purple and gold and the fact they used to crumble at the end of every season.

I guess they don't get called that so often since they won the NBL title the last two years.

Fancy coming to an American website and still finding someone griping about Super League. I share your loathing for Murdoch but rugby league was destined to implode without his money. The Winfield Cup had too much income tied to the tobacco and gambling (licenced clubs) industries and if the ARL hadn't been heading down a financial cul-de-sac they wouldn't have been as vulnerable to Murdoch's big bucks as they were.

Nice to "meet" you though Violet_Crumble. And yep, I'm rather partial to the actual choccy crumble bar as well.

:hi:

Dancing like a monkey with a malfunctioning vibrator jammed up its arse?

Seriously, its good to see some of the proper Aussie icons doing this.

Is Paul Kelly getting involved?
