Judge To Rule Monday On Indiana Early Voting Case

The Post-Tribune's John Byrne updates us on yesterday's federal hearing over the battle to open in-person absentee voting centers in Gary, Hammond, and East Chicago, IN:

Attorneys spent about eight hours Friday arguing in front of U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen about whether the satellite voting sites in the three cities help ensure a fair election for residents in northern Lake County or represent a crass attempt by Democrats to run up big returns in one of Indiana's biggest Democratic strongholds. In the end, Van Bokkelen said he had not decided whether to grant Lake County Republican Chairman John Curley a temporary restraining order to prevent the voting sites from opening in Clerk's Office locations in the cities ...

1. Why wouldn't they be open for early voting? Due southeast of there

here in my county we have early voting all month. Why would it be different in different counties in the same state?

Because Gary/Hammond/E Chicago is where the bulk of the Black/Hispanics live. Gary has it's problem, like the mayor riding around in a Hummer on the cities dime. But everyone there has a right to vote.

4. WTF do they mean by "crass attempt"?

It is the responsibility of the ENTIRE POLITICAL SYSTEM, BOTH SIDES AND ELECTION OFFICIALS, to see that every eligible voter votes unless they consciously choose not to. More eligible voters voting is, BY DEFINITION, a fairer election.
