G.A.B.: A source of non-partisan information about Voter Photo ID

As policymakers consider a bill to require Wisconsin electors to show photo identification as a requirement for voting, the Government Accountability Board is available to provide information and expertise regarding implementation of a photo ID requirement.

The Board has not taken a position in support of, or opposition to photo ID with the understanding that such policies are to be decided by Wisconsin’s elected officials. Consistent with its statutory responsibility to administer and enforce the State’s election laws, however, the Board can contribute a wealth of information and expertise to inform the policy discussion, and to identify issues that may need to be addressed at the State and local levels in the practical implementation of a photo ID requirement.

1. So is Minnesota. Fortunately we still have a Dem governor
who, I hope, would veto this and some of the other crazy shit the Republican legislature is concocting. MN has always had one of the most efficient, fraud-free election systems in the country, including same-day registration and verifiable ballots. Nevertheless the Republicans, claiming they are "concerned" about "voter fraud" (which is just about unheard of here), want to throw up all kinds of roadblocks of the sort that would make it more difficult for low income people, who often don't have drivers' licenses, to vote. Because, of course, they tend not to vote for Republicans, with good reason.

3. But, we all know this skews the voting 1-2% in favor of the rich over the poor.
