Anyone have a copy of Vonnegut's Monkeyhouse that can help me. |
|
I need to know how many pages are in the anthology and how many pages long the short story "Next Door" is.
I teach English and I am trying to push our department to do a school wide reading of one of Vonnegut's short stories tomorrow. I need the page information to see how close we are to academic copyright use.

4. It looks like we meet all the requirements |
|
and can make copies for the kids to read. Let me know what you think of this plan:
We are going to make copies of "Next Door" and give them to the kids to read tomorrow. On Monday, we will show the video of "Next Door" that was on Vonnegut's Monkeyhouse show and then talk about Kurt and the story. It's nothing glorious, but it gives us a chance to turn Kurt's death into a teachable moment.
We have 5 english teachers in our department. 4 are 100% on board. One is like, I don't think I can give up that day but I'll hand out copies and suggest the read it. What a tool. And he's one of my good friends in the school, but he's so damn rigid sometimes. It's not like major American authors die every day.

5. Besides, the story is so short |
|
I can't believe he wouldn't give up a period or two. Yuck.
That sounds wonderful. Can I come to class?
And don't even think about showing them the debacle that is the movie version of Slapstick -- an abomination if ever I've seen one.
Truth be told, I fell for Vonnegut in 11th grade AP English. We'd read several stories from Monkey House, Harrison Bergeron being the most vivid to me. After that, I read all of his books and in 12th grade English my final paper was "Lack of Free Will on the Lead Characters in Vonnegut's Major Novels.
Damn, I'm going to miss him. BTW, I adored the fact that he was in Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield. :)
