I will use that as an aid in selecting my future reading.
I was surprised to see "In Cold Blood" on the list - it's non-fiction.

4. It seems rather unfair |
|
that having waded through 3 of Dickens' novels, I should only get to claim credit for one. There are several other cases in which I seem to have read the wrong books by a listed writer. There are also some glaring ommissions. James Joyce should be on there somewhere. I've only read 76 of these, and I don't think I'll have time to finish the rest.

8. I got to 80+, counting in my head, but most of them so long ago. It's a good list to start with. |
|
It's worth printing out and carrying into your local library or bookstore.
I clicked on Great Books, and was pleased to see they had expanded the list to include the Asian and Middle Eastern traditions. Women are still largely absent, however.
