I will use that as an aid in selecting my future reading.

I was surprised to see "In Cold Blood" on the list - it's non-fiction.

4. It seems rather unfair
that having waded through 3 of Dickens' novels, I should only get to claim credit for one. There are several other cases in which I seem to have read the wrong books by a listed writer. There are also some glaring ommissions. James Joyce should be on there somewhere. I've only read 76 of these, and I don't think I'll have time to finish the rest.

8. I got to 80+, counting in my head, but most of them so long ago. It's a good list to start with.
It's worth printing out and carrying into your local library or bookstore.

I clicked on Great Books, and was pleased to see they had expanded the list to include the Asian and Middle Eastern traditions. Women are still largely absent, however.

And many others by the Authors listed that are not mentioned.
