Who Else Has Read "The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society"? |
|
I thought it was just wonderful. The characters are so sweet, so funny and eccentric, and so quietly brave. There's bound to be a movie; hope they do a worthy job of the book.....

3. OK, Here Goes (No Spoilers, Just A Plot Description) |
|
This is a little book set in 1946, and is told entirely in the form of correspondence. A London journalist/novelist is looking for her next book subject, when she happens across this little group of residents of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, the only part of England that was occupied by the Nazis during WWII. Their letters back and forth tell the story of what it was like, living under German occupation. Really a first-rate book, as far as I'm concerned; very funny, very touching. It was a Best Seller for some time.....

I was really disappointed by that Masterpiece Theatre series on the Channel Islands. It just stopped.

2. Not yet, but have heard |

it is a MUST read from someone unexpected - a husband of a friend who heard it recommended at a lecture. He can't stop talking about it.
This is a guy who is an amateur historian of a high degree without having an actual degree in history - instead a retired veterinarian.
