For reasons passing understanding, I recently finished "I Am Charlotte Simmons" |
|
I liked it better than "A Man In Full."
I wondered throughout if Charlotte Simmons was loosely based on Laura Bush.

1. That was an odd book, but I liked it. I did find that the depiction of college life |

a little unrealistic, though, didn't you? A college that size would have a good contingent of nerds and smarties, so Charlotte certainly would not have had to even mingle with jocks if she didn't want to. His depiction of college sounded more like high school to me.

Surely, she could have found a Christian group, if no one else, who were not laser focused on partying and getting laid. I also found it stretching disbelief that, even in smalltown North Carolina, this girl had seemingly never laid eyes on a copy of Cosmo -- or even Seventeen.
I found myself liking the book as well, in as much as Charlotte was a really well drawn character, and Wolfe did a good job creating his mythical university (which seemed like Duke, with a touch of Dartmouth, picked up and placed in State College, PA).
