Anyone read Eco's "The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana"? |

I want to gripe about something.

1. No, but his Foucault's Pendulum was tedious but in the end rewarding |

I'm NOT a fan of 'magical realism'. Good ole dogshit reality and nonfiction are bad enough.

Holy shit!
Hundreds of pages of narcissistic reflection on 60-year-old Italian fascist propaganda, followed by a few chapters of lengthy death-bed hallucination with no payoff?
I'm a great fan of Eco--I've read all of his novels and many of his essays, but this is just crap.
"It's all a dream" is the modern formulation of deus ex machina, and it's inexcusable.
Whew.
Thanks for listening!
