Just bought Spanking the Donkey by Matt Taibbi |
|
Heard him on Al Franken yesterday talking about his undercover volunteer work in the Bush campaign. I used to think Matt Taibbi was just kind of an arrogant dick (and he can be) who took cheap shots at people for giving a shit, but so far this book is really good. I'm reading the section where he was a Bush volunteer in Orlando first. I was wrong about Matt Taibbi. He's an excellent writer and more sympathetic to the people he writes about that I had previously thought. So far, I really like it.

2. I saw him on the Daily Show too |
|
Most of the times I turn the Daily Show off when they have the guests on and then I listen to Mike Malloy. Last night, I didn't turn it off. Taibbi was hilarious. The part on the Monkey suit and then when he said it was easy to trick the Rethugs to think that he was one of them cause all you had to do was say you hated Liberals.
I might pick this book up too.

3. his article for Rolling Stones on that "undercover" was hilarious! |
|
also check out his book review of Thomas Friedman's new "the world is flat (and the moon is made of green cheese)" or whatever the hell. i laughed so hard i had 'sudden wetness.' new york press i think. very funny.
though... he does seem to come off as a prick while he was being interviewed. very sardonic sense of humor.

Taibbi is spot on on so many things. My thinking has changed a bit from reading this book.

5. This is a great book and must read |
|
I read the first 2 chapters yesterday while I was at Borders. I could have stayed there and read the whole thing, but my wife got hungry and we had to go eat. The book is humorous and comes at the whole political circus in a different manner. I am not exactly quoting the author, but he said he wanted the book to show people how to sort through all the lies from a campaign. A very easy read, funny, and it provides some great insights.

7. It's a very good read. |
|
Very entertaining look at the 2004 campaign. And I did like the section where he was an undercover worker for the Bush campaign. Very illuminating look at the people who supported Bush.

8. he's turned on to the voter fraud in Ohio. He also had a contest |
|
to find the worst journalist in writing. Go to the archives and read it. Every week he'd pit two and critique them. The 'winner' would go on to the next level and there was a chart with them in elimination fashion. Bumiller won. HYSTERICAL. I haven't laughed so much in a long time. That paper is bookmarked on my computer.
