but, it's fiction.
Mineko Iwasaki, the geisha that he interviewed for the book was so disgusted and upset with Memoirs of a Geisha, that she wrote her own memoirs, Geisha: A Life. It's a much more realistic view of the geisha culture than what Memoirs gives.
