Has anyone read "From Baghdad, With Love: A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava" |

It's a story about a dog who was found in the wreckage of Fallujah. The dog worms his way into the heart and boots of a marine colonel who manages to bring the dog back to the states to live the good life.
This book is also a story about the Iraq war and the Marines who are fighting it. The Marines come off as softies who are putting up a tough guy exterior. The author is neither pro-war or anti-war. I think this was his third tour and he seems a little sick of it all.
It's quick read and will give you some insight into the Marines in Iraq. Plus it's a great dog story.

I read the 'Readers Digest' version from a couple of months ago.
Very moving story- and I am still amazed that he was able to get Lava back home.

3. If you get a chance try and read the full-length book |
|
The Reader's Digest version edits out a lot of stuff about Iraq. The colonel seems to have a lot of sympathy for both the young soldiers and the Iraqi's. He makes the distinction between terrorists and the Iraq population.
