This may have been brought up before, and if it has please don't
bite my head off but I was wondering if anyone would like to be part of a political book club in this group of nonfiction? Say a small group inside a group instead of starting a totally new group?

I thought those that would like to do this can email me at www.capitalism4sale@yahoo.com with the subject line stating "POLITICAL BOOK CLUB." Once I got a list of names (user names from DU) that would want to do that, I would post them here within the nonfiction group. Each member would get a turn to pick out the book of the month for everyone to read. I figure the fairest way to decide who chooses a book is to go alphabetically by the member name. The first member alphabetically would then choose a book. If you want you can buy the book; however, if it is a book written by a right neocon, I strongly suggest getting it from the library. I refuse to put a dime in a neocon's pocket just to read their book. I do think it would be a good idea if the members did mix the types of political books up but, again, it depends what the member whose turn it is decides what the other members should read. If you have already read a book suggested, then you might want to read it again or maybe just come online the first Tuesday and Thursday of the month to discuss and debate it with the other members. Once the book is posted, the members would have 30 days from the date posted and then the first Tuesday and Thursday of the month, the members would meet on here at an agreed-upon time and discuss the book, good and bad, and get other's opinions as well as debates. I feel this would be a fun way for us to educate ourselves even more regarding the realm of politics and political history.

1. Not to hijack your topic but what does it say about DU that a poster would feel it necessary to...
...preface his or her thread with "...please don't bite my head off but...?"

Others have expressed frustration with the needlessly mean tone of DU, lately, and I've experienced it, personally. Sadly, it's had me on the lookout for a more civil and respectful liberal board.

2. I'd like to thank you for acknowledging my post anyway. Most of the time

when I post I get completely ignored OR if I post on a thread, I'll kill it because no one ever responds to my posts. Sometimes I feel I'm invisible on this site. You may be off topic, but at least you acknowledged my existence. I've had at least 126 views but not one word except yours.

3. I've had my share of dead threads, too, but that's not what bothers me.
Although there are still good people here, this forum has changed, in the last year. Considering how rude and thoughtless some posters are, you should probably count yourself lucky, if you're just being ignored. I hate to sound so negative but DU is not the same place it used to be. And, from other comments I've read, lately, it's pretty clear that I'm not the only one who thinks so. :(

4. I'd be interested in a political book club.
We did have a book club on here before; but not a lot of participation in the discussions. Thursday nights don't work for me.

5. I think its a great idea
Don't know how much I would be able to contribute. I read a lot but not too many political books, although that might change (for all of us) in the next 18 months or so. There are probably some good tomes in the making as we type relative to the upcoming election. Good idea.
