Robert Kirkman on Frank Darabont's 'Walking Dead' TV Show

Kirkman Talks Frank Darabont's 'Walking Dead' TV Show

Kirkman had this to say about The Walking Dead at AMC,

"I'm excited that there is a television show, and I'm excited that Darabont is involved-and one of the big reasons for that is that I trust him. I don't need to look over his shoulder."

"I had no concerns about that whatsoever, because one of the concerns I have about zombie fiction is when they rely too much on the shocking gore aspects. That's not really the point of "Walking Dead,"

2. I think Darabont has got the skill to pull it off,

If AMC gives him the freedom to do what he wants it should be classic.

3. Well it has to have SOME shocking gore aspects!
It's a damned zombie show! :)

I think the gore can be downplayed quite a bit and still have an effective story, but it's not like a psychological thriller or slasher where the gore can be implied, a la the shower scene in Psycho. In a zombie movie they die by head shots and eat people. You can only skirt around that so much. :D

SyFy gets away with quite a bit of brief gore from what I've seen. AMC should be able to as well, if they air it late enough. If shot it in b&w they could get away with much more.
