Watched some from the American Music Awards.. |
|
and all I have to say is---- the state of American Music has never been worse.
God awful wailing sounds on stage and no I'm not talking about Christine Agullera.... they all just simply sound the same.
Yeah I'm the old guy yelling at the kids to get off my lawn...but god I miss the seventies.

1. the American Music Awards does not represent music in America |
|
It is like using velveta as a standard to judge all cheese. American "Pop" music has always been a "product" with few exceptions. Find your local alternative radio station or check out mine, www.kvnf.org, for live streaming, independent, international, ROCKNROLL!

As a studio musician I saw last nigh in a different light I guess. How did these kids get so big so fast? I remember walking the streets looking for gigs. 1/2 or more of the artist I saw couldn't carry a note in a bucket with a screw on lid.

Who was the stripper without pole midway through? Maybe Gaga, but the hair didn't seem like her.

3. as an independent unknown singer songwriter - |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 09:48 AM by MrsBrady
I hang out with other songwriters so I CAN ACTUALLY listen to good music.
That's what I listen to, is people I know. I'm into the singer-songwriter genre.
I do like some main stream artists, but not often.

the music is predictable, safe, dull, banal, and commercial. The times we live in should be inspiring creativity. The category "World Music" is reflecting the times best.

5. Artistic Freedom Vouchers |
|
The copyright system has allowed six companies to control most of music. It is not in the best interests of these companies to provide us with a diversity of options; it is much easier to market a small number of artists that appeal to the lowest common denominator. Information on an alternative proposal can be found here: http://www.cepr.net/documents/publications/ArtisticFreedomVoucherPamphlet.pdf (summary) http://www.cepr.net/documents/publications/ip_2003_11.pdf (more detail)
