Anti-gay Catholic psychiatrist who lends his credentials to demonize gay's for the faith
also covered for pedophile priest for a shadowy Catholic group call "http://1914582.sites.myregisteredsite.com/index.html">Opus Bono Sacerdotii".

Psychiatrist who examined Ratigan has ties to group supporting accused priests
As lawsuits against priest mount, concerns voiced about neutrality of psychiatrist who examined him.
By JUDY L. THOMAS and GLENN E. RICE
A Pennsylvania psychiatrist whose evaluation led Bishop Robert Finn to keep the Rev. Shawn Ratigan in ministry is an adviser to a group that supports priests accused of sexual abuse.

Richard Fitzgibbons, who examined Ratigan in January after disturbing photographs of children were found on the priest’s computer, is an adviser to Opus Bono Sacerdotii, according to the group’s website. The nonprofit organization provides services to accused and imprisoned priests, including financial, legal and emotional support.

After his evaluation, Fitzgibbons told Finn that Ratigan was not a pedophile and that his pornography problem was a result of loneliness and depression, according to a report commissioned by the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese.

Finn relied on Fitzgibbons’ opinion in his decision to send Ratigan to a Vincentian mission house in Independence, where he remained a priest and allegedly continued to take lewd photographs of children, the report said.
Ratigan now faces child pornography charges in Clay County and federal court.

That psychiatrist named Dr. Richard or Rick Fitzgibbons is on the Opus Bono Sacerdotii board of advisers.

"The media or major health organizations communicate none of the serious medical and psychiatric problems associated with homosexuality," said Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons, a psychiatrist from West Conshohocken, who has practiced child and adult psychiatry for more than 20 years.

For instance, a 1997 Canadian study done in Vancouver shows the life span of gay men to be similar to what it was in 1871. The study estimates that one-half of all gay and bisexual men currently aged 20 will not reach their 65th birthday.
Two recent studies published in the American Medical Association Archives of General Psychiatry confirm the existence of a strong link between homosexuality and suicide, as well as other mental and emotional problems. Forty percent of people with same-sex attraction were sexually abused as children. Relationship violence is as high as 44 percent among gay men and 55 percent among lesbian couples.

"This is the truth that no one will speak," said Fitzgibbons, "This is the truth that is not spoken in any of the diversity weeks they have in colleges or high schools. Students are made to think the homosexual lifestyle is exactly the same as the heterosexual lifestyle and all the major research coming out today shows that it's not the same. ? But they are specifically choosing to ignore this research because the issue is political correctness, not science."

<snip>

Fitzgibbons believes schools and school psychologists should be held liable when they actively promote the homosexual lifestyle while withholding vital information about mental and physical risks.

1. Astounding how homophobic this supposedly "well trained" doctor

is.

Isn't it amazing how so many homophobes insert and entangle themselves so deeply in their religion?

This kind of thinking is both frightening and filled with ignorance, many myths, and a complete misunderstanding of human sexuality.

against acceptance and tolerance of LGBT folks.

All those tax-free church dollars given by dutiful Catholics, some of them probably gay, so that this blatant intolerance and misinformation can be be put out there.

I wonder if we will see some of the believers defend this kind of thing from the largest Christian church on the planet.

3. Vile.
A doctor should 'first do no harm'; and he is doing plenty of harm.

4. Great observation. A doctor also ought to ...

put science and facts above religiously-promulgated bigotry toward a sizable group of human beings who are not heterosexual.

I would like to know how this doctor, who was so poorly trained in the sciences, got a license to practice medicine, when all he really wants to do is endorse bigotry, fear, hate, and ignorance.

Any doctor should lose their license for such propagandist activity, reminds me of Nazi doctors who approved experimentation on the Jews and the mentally disabled.

5. Good grief
He's parroting the lies of Paul Cameron. No legitimate professional does that. Even the "pro-family" groups have stopped doing it because Cameron's reputation as an anti-gay liar is so well-known it's toxic to be associated with him.

"Thanks, but no thanks" I don't deal well with idiocy. Well, I do, but I avoid it all over the place.
