Pat Summitt diagnosed with dementia, plans to coach this year.
Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt has been diagnosed with dementia, according to a report from CBSSports.com.

Summitt went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. earlier this year where a battery of tests revealed she had early onset dementia.

The legendary Vols coach, with 1,071 career victories, is expected to continue coaching despite her illness. Former players are flying in to show their support.

An official announcement on her condition is expected Tuesday afternoon.

That not a disease that I would wish upon anyone. Hopefully she can get treatment to slow down its onset.

3. Hopefully she will be able to get treatment to hold off the onset of the disease.
It can manifest itself 10-15 years before the full blown affects are really noticeable.

I had a coworker who got hit by this very young. It's tragic.

5. I've never been a Summitt fan, but never would I wish that disease on anyone.
Hopefully the treatment will allow her to live more fully the rest of her life.

7. She is not my favorite person, but this does suck...
If you listened to her last season she really kind of lost it a few times, meaning her temper and demeanor...this could explain it.

8. This is horrible
My Mother in Law is in the beginning stages as well. This makes me want to cry. I feel so much for her family and friends. Hopefully Pat can get some treatment and it may help ease some of the symptoms. My Mother in Law has good days and bad days. When she sees us, those are her good days. Maybe if Pat continues working it may help her remember more things.

9. My mom would repeat questions when I called and complained of forgetfulness.
And it's why I now take ginko biloba, have started playing guitar again, blog, and DU, of course -- to keep the brain engaged.

:(
