a new poem- "The Snowstorm" |
|
It hasn't been edited. It's an attempt to be a bit more cheery then my more somber city-scape poems...it's from the weekend that the huge blizzard struck Boston and my boyfriend stayed with me for the weekend. There was just such an oddly quiet mood when we woke up Sunday morning....which I tried to capture. My boyfriend is like many of us on DU- sensitive, emotionally, to the great injustice in this world...and sometimes I just don't know what to do. He's just so...brilliant...and I can't stand to see him be hurt by this world....
"The Snowstorm"
These nights are cold and bare. Your form, covered in blankets, stirred when a shriek of wind threw itself against the window. Even the city lights outside are masked, blurred and splintered by the wind and ice of the storm. Your eyes opened, grey as the ashen sky, and pierced me. My dear, this world will destroy you. I can see it in the green flecks of your eyes, a fear of that world outside the window. I understand, my dear why. Do not fear: lie with me, embrace me. Let me cover you. Smell my flesh and sleep.

I pictured candlelight and soft music.
and I am thankful that you linked to it from that lounge post, or I would have missed it!

20. You mean the "quiet" that settles over everything |
|
when there's a snowstorm without much wind?
Yes, it did.

That was lovely! But did you have to post that while Mr. Dissenter is out of town? It makes me want to snuggle up under the safety of an enormous pile of blankets and comforters, and I don't mean alone!
Your boyfriend is very fortunate, by the way.

It captures that grey...ashen grey...sky...perfectly. It looks quiet too...which is so important. It's like the storm mutes the world.

Congratulations.
By the way, The Shiek has been tombed as the disruptor (with no taste) he was.

21. I like it--for what it's worth, the word "splintered" makes it for me... |
|
...seems very appropriately used, and sets the tone.
BTW, apparently you pissed someone off!
