Calling all fantasy-scifi-horror writers! Yeah you! |
|
I have an idea and I'd like to see if anyone's interested. I don't consider myself a writer because I don't write nearly often enough, but I would like to get back in the habit. I write dark sci-fi, bordering on cyberpunk.
What I am proposing is starting a fiction website to serve as:
A. A free place to publish your work B. A place to discuss each other's work
With enough contributions and a modicum of professionalism, the site itself might get seen by someone who knows someone, and so forth. Mostly I see it as a lark, just something to do with the crap we write.
Any feedback would be great. If you are intensely focused on your writing career I'd say this might not be for you...but tell me anyway!

1. There are some sites like this, I think. |

I don't know, I have an agent. www.authorsden.com is a good site, check it out.
What might be a very interesting idea is a group blog; authors could sign up as contributors (via you as a sort of editorial gatekeeper to deter dross) and publish extracts from their work, or sequential segments or chapters. It's easy to set up a blog and easy to set up a way to let readers see all posts by someone whose work they like; there could also be a comments section, which might be good. Also, it would be more appealing to casual readers because it would contain lots of snippets of writing from different authors - with the option of reading more - rather than just big screeds of text. And if you got enough people involved it would update regularly.
