The Real War on Christmas (or) We were Not Welcome There.
I am going mad.

In the name of love. Fight against debate
Flee from truth
Pull down the blinds
We are not safe here.
Vote for the leader
Don’t stop thinking ‘bout tomorrow.
Love the sinner, know their heresy.
Expose it for all to see.
Talk in coded phrases
It’s easy to do
Deny that others may feel different than you.
Welcome to Your life, not mine.

I feel scared.

These are good people.
Last year, it was different.
There wasn’t much tension.
It wasn’t the same.
The nuts in the white house
Have made this a ‘right house.’
And the children left behind became the sacrificial lamb in their fight for salvation.
(And this "Christian nation")

1. I can definitely "feel" this poem
The way the religious right and the Bush Administration are eroding all that were good about America and turning it into a fascist theocracy. Your poem evokes the fear and frustration they are creating for people whose rights are being trampled in the name of "morality" and "security".

Good work.

2. Thanks.
I wrote that last christmas- we (for the first time ever) didn't go up to connecticut to see my partner's rw parents. We would have had nothing to talk about. They're fundies- no abortion- gay people- automatic trip to hell. Dungeons and Dragons= evil. Bush = God.

My nieces and nephews weren't allowed to see that movie- the one with the fish (blanking on the name- long day)- because "THAT WOMAN" (Ellen) played the voice of one of the fish. She thought it would be immoral (I guess) to let them see it.

Anyway, thanks for reading my poem. I meant to post it last year, but never got around to it.

Have a great weekend!
