Mind if I pick your brains? I was just told about this forum.
I don't want to brag..It's nothing fancy but I'm in a slight jam. My friend acts at a community theater and the play they are doing in Late December early Jan fell thru and she has begged me to come up with something creative they can do...

I was thinking of a soap opera spoof. Little skits more than an actual play. But the skits are interwoven together.

I would love thoughts on what I have already.

Walker and Tanni --aka the lovers-- all the skits will involve them in and around the bed. I manage to write five scenes with them already. They talk in bed, fight in bed, eat in bed, and well talk about you know what .. anyways The last skit I wrote has them trying to get out of bed at 5p.m. so he could make a meeting and she can go help her sick mother...and of course what happens

Shay--aka the bitch/boss from hell-- she has already fired 5 people, had a brief affair and has been shot by of course no one... and that's just 3 scenes

Jaysen-- heartthrob-- Top is always off showing off his Six-pack and pecks unfortunately I making him come off like the biggest jock with the classic dumb jock mind. Like his wife is having an affair and he sees all the signs but he is too dumb to connect them together. The running gag to this is that 3 different actors will be playing Jaysen. As each scene opens The announcer will say the part of Jaysen Dakota is now being played by ___ ____ (actor's real name.)

Blythe--the classic damsel in distress/ everything happens to her. Daughter of Shay, Blythe's best friend is her stalker(has no clue)--also Stalker(looking for a good name for her)is disfigured by a terrible trap she set for Blythe but it backfired. The reason she hates Blythe so much is because Blythe won a beauty contest instead of her. She is mysteriously pregnant and I don't know if I should have her get kidnapped or what.

anyone think it will work or should I go back to square one?

any other suggestions?

2. That's a good one...But do I play get kidnap and spend half the play
as a captive...(due to the size of the stage and the way I am setting it up. Either one side of the stage tied to a chair... or on a small level above the stage that is often used as a second stage.)

I was also going to get sick and have one possible father be a long lost half brother of her mother's...or is that too sick?

3. does she know he's a 1/2 uncle?
she doesn't have to be kidnapped a long time she can escape too...you could have quite a story line if you wanted with how she escapes and who helps her that's always breathtaking when they're trying to get away :)

4. I like it, keep working with it...
people LOVE to see other dysfunctional people in action. It makes them feel better about their own lives!

6. WOOO thanks If I remember correctly they do have a set of twins
and will be able to work on this play.

 (I think I know who might be playing Blythe...) And what if the kidnapper isn't the uncle but her long lost twin sister who is upset that she was sent to live with their real father The Prince of ___ ____
(I'll think of a name if this angle works well. I can just hear the evil twin crying MOM ALWAYS liked you best. Evil twin takes the place of Blythe who ends up doing a mini version of the Penelope Pit-stop route.
toward the end of the play Evil Twin and Blythe make up and they love each other and of course no kidnapping/murder charges can be filed on evil twin because she has Diplomatic immunity.

The uncle a mystery figured always talked about but doesn't show up until the last act... I think Shay will think he is dead and he fell in love with Blythe not knowing he is her uncle. (Amnesia angle can come in here.) + you find out that at the very end of the play HE WAS THE ANNOUNCER!

8. Amnesia is another common soap-opera plot device
Maybe during some rough sex, one of 'em bumps his/her head on the headboard and forgets entirely who they are... ;)
