Thoughts about creating a wiki for an author?

Do you feel this is a helpful promotional tool? Other than using Wikipedia for research purposes, I'm pretty clueless about how to make "proactive" use of this tool.

2. Someone asked me the question about a wiki, and I was clueless...

The author has a website, FB fan page, blog, twitter account, etc., etc.

A wiki is an online tool I'm simply not familiar with, so I was wondering if any here felt it could be helpful in any way that eludes me at present.
