perhaps that is a writer's evolution, but while parents were in hospital (for relatively minor things) I decided to work on a short story. Well, cannot get it to work in any way, shape or form without doing quite a bit of pre-writing. So that's it... no more writing from the seat of my pants.

I used to... be able to sit down and just write... we all evolve. I have...

RIP to that freedom, and thank god I got the snowflake on my machine as well as other things. For the moment I am back at the novel I extensively pre plotted using the snow flake method. I got that software (since I have used the method in the past) when it was on release sale, and I just love it. It makes writing (or rather pre-writing) that much easier and darn it, it runs on both my Mac and the Lappie.

But that goes into writing styles... and how different all of them are.

1. I've rarely had any success just sitting down and writing

If i haven't done a ton of prep work, it usually goes in the circular file in the end. What I have discovered, though, is that I can take a notebook and my favorite pen and get into brainstorming ideas for some new or revised segment of plot, for fleshing out characters, or for whatever needs to be done. That kind of seat of the pants work still works for me.

btw - tell me about the snowflake program. Sounds interesting.

4. Thanks, nadinbrzezinski

:hi:

I've never paid attention to such programs before, but I'm dealing with a series for the first time and believe something like this could make streamlining information much, much easier.

I'm looking forward to checking this out further.

:)

5. Wondering if anyone knows of a program similar to Snowflake...

which has a feature that enables one to enter a previous novel (in the case of a series), and it
somehow aggregates information to be put to use in the organization of said sequel?

I wrote Randy Ingermanson (creator of Snowflake), and he kindly replied that Snowflake doesn't do this.

I wonder if something exists out there which may fit the bill.

:)
