Bumper Sticker: "Smile, your mother was pro-life." Actually... |
|
No. My mother is pro-choice., She CHOSE to have me.
Saw this on a pick-up driving down the S 110 through Downtown LA. Idiot. And taking a look at this maniac, he looked like the kind of guy who would blow up a clinic.

As my mother had 3 abortions before me ...
I tend to think she made the choice to continue the pregnancy that resulted in my birth.
I'm just saying... I gotta go with "choice" here.

Big ole blue van with two support the troops stickers on it. You know what the woman got rear ended by a white pick up truck because she was combing her hair instead of watching her surroundings.

4. Isn't it amazing how these right wingers have met our parents? |
|
Especially since I live 450 miles away from my mother, and yet a guy in a van I saw yesterday has apparently met her and spoke at length with her about her reproductive philosophies!
Except, of course, he couldn't have. She is the one who taught me that a woman's body is hers and that abortion is sometimes necessary. And that's a value I'm teaching my children. So that when THEY see that guy's bumper sticker, they know that they were chosen- not simply accidents allowed to happen. And since they know they were chosen, they know they are valued and loved.

I actually thought of making up a bumper sticker saying that. "I am am mother by CHOICE - Nobody FORCED it upon me." I choose to have none BEFORE my two nor none AFTER.
No, Fundies, there were no little OOPS. We made SURE of that.

|
But thank God we're still BLUE!
That idiot could have been from anywhere, not necessarily LA. I'm Catholic and pro-choice... we're not all lock and step with the idiot Pope. Believe me.

However, much of Los Angeles County, and all neighboring counties, are RED :(
I live in the reddest part of LA County.

9. What is with the battle over language?! |
|
It's really pissing me off!!! People on this very board, claiming to be progressive, yet insisting 'nastily' that we, as pro-choicers call ourselves pro-abortionists or anti-lifers???
I thought this was a progressive board!
:wtf:

10. I think I saw what you are referring to. |
|
My philosophy is that those that consider themselves anti-reproductive-choice, or anti-abortion, will not find too many friends on this Board.
I'm as pro-choice as they come!!! And, no, I'm not 'pro-abortion.' I emphasize the word, 'CHOICE.' It should be a conscious, well-informed, well-thought-out choice to carry that pregnancy to term. Since the 70's, I've believed that every child should be a loved, wanted child.

So good to see you! :hi: Thanks for validating my experience. I briefly thought maybe *I* was going nuts, that DU's demographics had changed and I had somehow missed it. LOL! Given the amount of people that jumped in later with comments, I guess you are right. (In that they won't find too many friends on this board)...
I too believe every child should be a loved, wanted child.
I've also seen the other side of children born to addicts--very scary, heartbreaking stuff--those babes go through absolute hell.

I was pretty disheartened earlier when it happened...though, admittedly there were a couple to trickle in. But MUCH better now! LOL!
I know we all have the right to be here, as long as we are all Dems, but I don't get how or why one with that opinion would WANT to exist here. To each his/her own of course. Just seems a HUGE contradiction in terms...

Whew! I know. THe battle over language can get silly. Pro-choice means just that- you are in favor of staying out of people's private business and taking care of your own damn self.

17. Right wingers, especially anti choicers, are basically bullies |
|
who want to define everything that other people think and do and say.
Pity them. Just don't let them label you or me or anyone else but themselves. Point out the false advertising they choose for themselves--they are assuredly NOT pro life because they are hostile to the already born.
I'm done with bullies. Anyone who pushes me is going to be pushed back. Hard.

If you don't like the term pro-choice, that's okay. Don't call us pro-abortion or anti-life though if you're a progressive. That just sucks.

when she had an abortion. Had one grown up daughter and didn't want to have a newborn child and a 2 year old grandson when she was 45 years old and her husband was 50.
Maybe she should have practiced "Abstinence Only" IN Marriage? ROFL

That's what really gets my goat. The idea that every woman wants or should be a mother. Any woman who dares go against this presumption is suspect to them.

24. Choice Empowers Women |
|
a touching story I heard a few months ago was at a Planned Parenthood gathering. A young woman had become pregnant, agonized for a while and then decided to CARRY THE BABY TO TERM and GIVE IT UP FOR ADOPTION. And she said how comforted and empowered she felt to know she made that CHOICE and had other options.

No one is saying anyone has to get an abortion. But we're also not saying you have to carry it to term and viable either. Well said. Choice. That word seems to really confuse "pro-birthers." :eyes:

26. Good way of saying it. |
|
I am the poster child for choice.
I had an abortion in 1994. I had JUST gotten my butt back to school and was working full time AND going to school full time. If I'd had a kid, I would have had to drop out, and would never have finished. I'd probably be on welfare right now.
In '97 I got pregnant again when I was almost finished, and decided to keep the baby. My mom said she'd move in and help me care for the baby, and I settled in and began planning for a new addition. I had a miscarriage. Which turned out to be a good thing.
But it was MY CHOICE how I lived my life, and that has made all the difference to finally having a career and a husband I love, and choosing to be childfree in our marriage.

29. I am, as was my mother, pro-choice |
|
and pro-life. I resent the antis for assuming they know my mother or me and I resent the hell out of them for making the terms pro-choice and pro-life antonymous. I can't think of anything more pro-life than giving a woman the freedom to choose what is best for her and providing her the safe means to carry out that choice.
