Marijuana as a symbol

Let's also remember that the war on weed is a carry over of the war on the '60's.
Pot has symbolic meaning.
Those striving for a more authoritarian and military based society (rightwingers) can't stand the symbol. It gets in the way.

1. Those striving to scapegoat others so that they themselves won't be required to change their
own behaviors.

This is an issue that is being used the same way tha Abortion has been used to enslave a BIG voting block to certain funding sources.

One thing that is also absolutely impossible to ignore about this issue is the extreme degree to which ALCOHOL, a MUCH more physically and psychologically damaging drug, is extolled and admired in our culture.

2. True. The fascist "conservatives" couldn't get laid during the "Summer of Love"
They remain bitter to this day, and still hate the "dirty hippies". :hippie:

They were afraid to eat the acid, and the few who tried pot got paranoid.

3. This is one thing we can't let go
Legalization of hemp/marijuana has immense economic, environmental, and social benefits, so many that to list them all I would be typing for ages. The number of problems that could be solved by ending this stupid 'war' on it are too many to be counted.

5. Well of course it goes much farther back than that
It has great symbolic meaning even earlier in the 20th century, as something that was used by inferior races. Harry J. Anslinger, first ever Commissioner of the ONDCP said to Congress that “Negro entertainers with their jazz and swing music are declared an outgrowth of marijuana use which possesses white women to tap their feet.”

Sounds like some powerful stuff.
