Youth suicide rates are at the lowest levels ever recorded, with today's rate less than half that of 40 years ago. Youth suicide rates are far lower than adults, too.Only 1 in 2500 teens (13-19) kill themselves, whereas 1 in 900 parent-aged adults do.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can let their understanding of what is and isn't a crisis, and the relative frequency of same, by the same mass media they criticize as appealing to those (other) idiots--- not them.

Recall all the people who will still make claims about exploding crime (it's down AGAIN first half of 2010... and of course they KNEW it must go up in a recession) when in fact this nation hasn't been safer - on the freeways or in terms of crime, for decades.

The 18 year old sons of two classmates killed themselves in the last two years.

It's the third leading cause of death for males 15-25.

It's not hysteria.

That suicide is indeed terrible, and gay rights in the military and across society are very worthwhile agendas, does not obscure the suspicion that these particular teen suicides received publicity because they were useful to various interests.

4. The issue of gay teens committing suicide came out this year as a new topic. Far too late

in my estimation but at least it got out there and made it into the news. Now fundie parents will have to think and feel before they damage their glbt kids.
