what is the role of community in education?

following the thread of my last post about philanthropy, a broader question.

1. They help fund it via taxes

They help set policy via school boards

They help run it via substitute teachers

They give input via PTA

2. Depends on how you define "community" and "education"

I'd say that the answer is "everything".

the "community" is a vital part of the schools, just as long as they don't have too much money to donate?

4. ??? Was that supposed to make sense?

The fact that the community is an absolutely essential part of education does not imply that anything that anyone with the community elects to do is necessarily the best option even if well-intended.
