2. I agree. There is another boy from this area who was given a paddle when he graduated
from 6th grade by his teacher. She thought he should have it because she had used it on him so

many times that year. Some trophy! He told me whenever they were paddled the teacher gave them

a permanent marker and made them write their name on the paddle. His name was on it 17 times.

3. nothing to do with obama + 1 anonymous kid tells a story about another anonymous
kid he met on the first day of school who told him he'd been paddled 40 times.

um, maybe if there were something besides a second-hand story from an 8-year-old?

4. Kids obviously coached
Sad that anyone would use kids like this. Just damned sad.

No I am not and never will condone corporal punishment. But coaching kids to do this is not an effective strategy, IMO. It's dishonest.

I don't know how many states/districts still allow corporal punishment in their schools. I don't support it at all. I don't think this is an effective way to end it, though.

Paddling was still allowed when I started working in the early 1980s in CA. Until it was banned altogether, though, I never knew of an instance in which it was actually used in the schools I worked in.
