From what little I know from the local news, their religious beliefs are mostly "Old Testament" as they interpret it. Really sad all around. Expect lots of finger pointing as details come out in court, at police, social services, neighbors, etc. Other children were home schooled, little contact with other people.

Some stories report the house as one room! From news video, looks like almost new 4 bedroom house with garage on edge of new area.

11. The guy was living in a one-room apartment with three "wives"

and several children. The child he murdered was the only one who wasn't his biological son. That's a pattern that has nothing whatsoever to do with religion and everything to do with a well-established pattern male violence unfortunately not peculiar to the human species. Without discounting the huge number of wonderful stepfathers, many of whom are far better dads than their biological counterparts, a child's chance of being abused/murdered rises by approximately 600% if there's a biologically unrelated male in the house--usually the mother's boyfriend or husband.
