Aussie Rugby Star “Emma and I Decided Not To Get Legally Married til Our Gay Friends Can Do the Same
http://www.ukgaynews.org.uk/Archive/11/Oct/0801.htm

WELLINGTON, October 8, 2011 A leading Australian rugby player and committed Christian, David Pocock, took time out from preparations for Sunday’s World Cup quarter final clash with South Africa in Wellington, New Zealand, to ‘come out’ in support of marriage equality.

He said that he and his female partner will not marry until their gay friends can.

Australian Marriage Equality National Convener, Alex Greenwich, welcomed Mr Pocock’s statement saying it shows support for the issue is increasingly widespread in all sections of Australian society.

“David Pocock’s strong support for equality will have a dramatic impact in a sports-mad nation like Australia,” Mr Greenwich said.

“David’s stance also sends out the message that marriage equality is a reform Christians can and should support.”

8. K&R, wonderful to know, but really not all that suprising.
Rugby is and has always been my favorite sport. I played for the Houston Roughnecks, and the Houston heat for a bit of time. Rugby is definitely one sport where the VAST majority that I've met are open minded.

10. That has been my experience as well.
I played with the Atlanta Bucks years ago, and we played traditionally straight teams in our local rugby league in addition to IGRAB teams. I did see some homophobia in the attitudes of my straight opponents, but they were by far the exception and not the rule. I found most of those guys to be very gay affirming and were great men to have a beer with after a match.

Rugby is a true sport of brotherhood. :hi:
