Safety Of The HPV Vaccine That Gov. Perry Made Mandatory In Texas......
Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System = VAERS

As of June 22, 2011, approximately 35 million doses of Gardasil® were distributed in the U.S. and VAERS received a total of 18,727 reports of adverse events following Gardasil® vaccination: 17,958 reports among females and 346 reports for males, of which 285 reports were received after the vaccine was licensed for males in October 2009. VAERS received 423 reports of unknown gender. Of the total number of VAERS reports following Gardasil®, 92% were considered to be non-serious, and 8% were considered serious.

Deaths Reported Among Those Who Have Received Gardasil - the HPV Vaccine

As of June 22, 2011 there have been a total 68 VAERS reports of death among those who have received Gardasil® . There were 54 reports among females, 3 were among males, and 11 were reports of unknown gender. Thirty two of the total death reports have been confirmed and 36 remain unconfirmed due to no identifiable patient information in the report such as a name and contact information to confirm the report. A death report is confirmed (verified) after a medical doctor reviews the report and any associated records. In the 32 reports confirmed, there was no unusual pattern or clustering to the deaths that would suggest that they were caused by the vaccine and some reports indicated a cause of death unrelated to vaccination.

Here Are The Weasel Words To Not Directly Implicate This Vaccine

VAERS data cannot be used to prove a causal association between the vaccine and the adverse event. The only association between the adverse event and vaccination is temporal, meaning that the adverse event occurred sometime after vaccination. Therefore, the adverse event may be coincidental or it may have been caused by vaccination, however we cannot make any conclusions that the events reported to VAERS were caused by the vaccine.

Summary

Based on all of the information we have today, CDC recommends HPV vaccination for the prevention of most types of cervical cancer. As with all approved vaccines, CDC and FDA will continue to closely monitor the safety of HPV vaccines. Any problems detected with these vaccines will be reported to health officials, healthcare providers, and the public and needed action will be taken to ensure the public's health and safety.

I'm sure Big Pharma had something to do with crafting the above two statements.

1. Perry belies himself by making this vaccine mandatory for
Texas children. He says he wants no government interference in people's lives, yet what else is he advocating?

2. That statement is completely accurate.
68 deaths among 35 million people who received the vaccine? No evidence that their deaths were related to the vaccine. No proof of causation.

What's the death rate of people that age in general?

You aren't understanding how this all works, I think.

New Website Launched for Gardasil Victims
By Susan Brinkmann, For The Bulletin
Saturday, January 23, 2010

Two North Carolina women who met when their daughters both became sick after being vaccinated by the same lot of the controversial Gardasil vaccine, have launched a new Web site to help victims find information and support. TruthAboutGardasil.org is the brainchild of Marian Green, 42, of Boone, North Carolina and Rosemary Mathis, 45, of nearby North Wilkesboro. Unknown to one another at the time, both women decided two years ago to have their daughters vaccinated with Gardasil, a vaccine created by Merck & Co. which protects teens against several cancer-causing strains of the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus.

“Holly used to run six to 10 miles daily – she was at the top of her game,” said Mrs. Greene about her now 18-year-old daughter. “But within a few days of getting the Gardasil shot, she couldn’t walk and could hardly breathe.”

Rosemary’s now 14-year-old daughter, Lauren, received a vaccine from the same lot number. “Within 14 days, she started to become sick and is now completely disabled,” Mrs. Mathis said.

The two found themselves running from doctor to doctor looking for help. In Holly’s case, she was eventually diagnosed with pericarditis, an inflammation and swelling around the heart, which the doctor said was caused by the Gardasil shot. Doctors at Duke University have determined that Lauren Mathis is suffering from a “vaccine injury” and say it will take her at least two years to recover from it.

“She’s coming around,” Mrs. Mathis said. “She was completely bedridden before and isn’t now.”

During those frantic two years spent searching for answers, Marian and Rosemary stumbled upon a Yahoo group for victims of the vaccine. It was here that they met each other along with hundreds of other mothers whose daughters became sick after receiving the Gardasil vaccine. Eventually, they found another group for Garadasil victims on Facebook, where thousands more were looking for help.

“And these people were from all over the world, not just the USA,” Mrs. Green says.

4. They aren't weasel words.
There is simply no causal evidence between the vaccine and the cause of death. One of the first things that they teach you in a medical stats class is that correlation cannot imply causation.

VAERS doesn't have the ability to link causation all they do is report numbers.

The statistics have shown no clustering that would indicate that Gardasil is the cause of death. This statistical clustering is what would be needed to link the correlation to the causation.

Will the FDA do the right thing?

One thing we know for sure, Merck won’t go down without a fight. The future profit stream of Gardasil is integral to Merck’s livelihood. The President of Merck’s vaccine division will no doubt be fighting hard to assure everyone that Gardasil is safe. Of course, we’ve seen this President before, but you know her as Dr. Julie Gerberding, former head of the CDC. Can you imagine the irony?

then you can talk about conflict of interest. Until then, I don't think you even know what it means.

Although I would also like to state I appreciated that http://www.ageofautism.com/2009/12/julie-gerberding-former-cdc-director-to-become-president-of-mercks-vaccine-business.html and
http://adventuresinautism.blogspot.com/2009/12/julie-gerberding-named-head-of-merck.html reported this information when it occurred (unlike our pharmaceutical advertisement saturated mainstream media).

I think the information provides important perspective.

Dr. Julie Gerberding Named President of Merck Vaccines

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. – Dec. 21, 2009 – Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MRK) today announced that Dr. Julie Gerberding has been named president of Merck Vaccines, effective January 25, 2010. Dr. Gerberding led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as director from 2002 to 2009. During her tenure at CDC, Dr. Gerberding led the agency during more than 40 emergency response initiatives for health crises including anthrax bioterrorism, food-borne disease outbreaks, and natural disasters, and advised governments around the world on urgent public health issues such as SARS, AIDS, and obesity.

“Vaccines are a cornerstone of Merck's commitment to health and wellness," said Richard T. Clark, chairman and chief executive officer, Merck & Co., Inc. "We are delighted to welcome an expert of Dr. Gerberding's caliber to Merck. As a preeminent authority in public health, infectious diseases and vaccines, Dr. Gerberding is the ideal choice to lead Merck's engagement with organizations around the world that share our commitment to the use of vaccines to prevent disease and save lives."

"I’ve had the privilege in my previous work in academia and in the federal government to be a passionate advocate for public health priorities such as vaccines, which are an imperative component of global health development," said Dr. Gerberding. "I am very excited to be joining Merck where I can help to expand access to vaccines around the world."

Dr. Gerberding will lead the company's $5 billion global vaccine business. Merck currently markets a broad range of pediatric, adolescent and adult vaccines and is a leading provider of vaccines in countries around the world; in the U.S., Merck markets vaccines for 12 of the 17 diseases for which the U.S. Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices currently recommends vaccines. She will be responsible for the commercialization of the current portfolio of vaccines, planning for the introduction of vaccines from the company's robust vaccine pipeline, and accelerating Merck's on-going efforts to broaden access to its vaccines in the developing world. Dr. Gerberding will also collaborate with leaders of Merck Manufacturing Division and Merck Research Laboratories to manage the critical linkages between basic research, late-stage development and manufacturing to expand Merck's vaccine offerings throughout the world...

Do you think this is a defense for anything at all?

If so, how?

Seriously. If this supposed conflict of interest is all you can offer in your defense of AoA, and it's ridiculous attack on vaccines, don't you think your argument is, well, uh, non existent?

And why would you believe the repeatedly discredited AoA, while ignoring the clear evidence that vaccines save lives, and are SAFE!?

5. Unrec for failure to understand science.
Starting with the fact that if I get a vaccine, and then die of a brain tumor, it doesn't follow that the vaccine caused it.

8. Gardasil turned me into the Hulk...
http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2008/01/how_vaccine_litigation_distorts_the_vaer.php
http://neurodiversity.com/weblog/article/14/chelation-autism

In September 2004, a study from the UK showed no association between thimerosal exposure and autism . At the same time, a review of ten epidemiological studies of autism and thimerosal found that the few studies that found an association between thimerosal exposure and autism had serious methodological flaws. Chief among these flaws was using the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) as a source of data.

The chief problem with the VAERS data is that reports can be entered by anyone and are not routinely verified. To demonstrate this, a few years ago I entered a report that an influenza vaccine had turned me into The Hulk. The report was accepted and entered into the database.

Because the reported adverse event was so… unusual, a representative of VAERS contacted me. After a discussion of the VAERS database and its limitations, they asked for my permission to delete the record, which I granted. If I had not agreed, the record would be there still, showing that any claim can become part of the database, no matter how outrageous or improbable.

Misuse of VAERS is endemic among the antivax crowd.

See you, and this post, in the Health forum.

10. So, 32 people died in a loose correlation to this vaccine.
Across a dispersement of 35 MILLION doses?

So the odds are less than 1 in 1 Million?

In 2007, 4021 women died of cervical cancer.

How about we quit attacking Perry for mandating a life saving immunization and attack him for being a fucking nutjob.

11. There is not even demonstrated correlation, much less causation.
That some people died after vaccination means absolutely nothing -- there is not even a trail to follow unless mortality showed higher incidence among otherwise-comparable people who got the vaccine versus those who did not.

The problem with Perry's edict was not the safety of the vaccine, rather the profits that would have been earned by his cronies who produce Gardasil.

12. i recall when the vaccine first hit the news, many claimed that getting cervical cancer
wasn't that big a deal; easily found and easily treated. IIRC, there was some discussion that it was cheaper to treat the few cervical cancer cases than to vaccinate a population. What I'd like to hear more about is the connection between oral cancer and HPV. I lost a cousin far too young to that disease, and treatment about as nasty as they come.

15. I've posted about the treatments for these cancers.
Imagine radioactive seeds planted around your vagina or radiation applied to your anus.

And you can't do that for some oral cancers - which can come from the same virus.

The vaccine is safe & works better than they anticipated.

Some 'liberals' and right wing nuts have this in common - good medical science applied to the vagina, anus, penis & mouth - that involves sex - will send them around the bend.

Hopefully this vaccine will make it's way into common use for both boys & girls.

17. oh, i agree wholeheartedly - the naysayers were suggesting
that surgical treatment of cervical cancer including hysterectomy was a minor problem!

My 81 year old mother was urging me to get my sons vaccinated; this from a woman who never to my knowledge spoke the words "oral sex"!

Losing my cousin to oral cancer (heart attack after surgery) really tore up the family.
