New Lancet study: Flu Vax (At best) 59% Effective
A new analysis of scores of flu vaccine effectiveness studies conducted by researchers at the University of Minnesota have concluded that at bestflu vaccines are 59% effective in adults, but that there is no clear evidence that they are effective in adults older than 65%. The results for adults younger than 65 are significantly lower than earlier effectiveness claims made by the vaccine industry.

1. Teachers have been saying this for years.
I know many who just plain don't get them, saying they always get sicker in the years they get the vax than in the years they don't. My kids have to get them (asthma), and I should, too, but I'm never all that sure it's that good of an idea.

5. Same here
Yes, I've had days when I've just not been myself, but I'm always at least three-quarters of the way there.

The study concerned everyone, and that's where the data I offered is derived.

Whoops!

Here's the money quote: "Efficacy of LAIV was shown in nine (75%) of the 12 seasons analysed in ten randomised controlled trials (pooled efficacy 83% <69—91>) in children aged 6 months to 7 years."

10. Conclusion--improvements in vaccine are needed.
Still, 2/3 effective is a lot better than than going without the vaccine.
