1. Hopefully I'll be a first year in MN next year!
I will be sending out all my apps TODAY, so it is funny that you asked that. U of MN, St. Thomas, William Mitch, Hamline

4. I will. I am not sure where everyone is, but I know there are quite a
number of law students/lawyers on this board.

I have a question for you, what is the general age group over at St. Thomas Law? I am "non traditional," 27 years old (I'll be 28 by the time I start) and am wondering what age most law students are. I would imagine around 22-24 for first year. Also, do you feel the student body is more liberal or conservative? I would imagine STU being a bit more conservative, since it is a catholic school.

6. good!
I attended an NLG conference of some sort in DC back in about 1980, just out of interest. Unfortunately I don't remember much about the conference, but I met some nice people.

When I was in law school and practice, I was in the Law Union of Ontario, a rough counterpart.

Huh. http://www.lawunion.ca isn't responding. But if you're interested, google for "Law Union of Ontario" to see some of the things progressive lawyers up here are up to.

I'm not aware of a specifically feminist legal-professionals organization in the US; is there? We have the National Association of Women and the Law http://www.nawl.ca/ ... although of course, when I was around at its founding, it was the National Association of Women in Law. But then "feminist" started to become a good career choice, especially for those with political connections, and the feminists didn't want the boys jeering at them from the outside, so they let them in. (When I objected to the decision, and the high-handed way in which it had been made, I was informed by one leading light of the careerist-feminist brigade that "after all, you know, we're not housewives anymore".) I quit.

Look forward to some enlightened discussion of justice issues. (I'd make a wavey-icon if I knew how.)

7. hi!
I'm a 2L at St. Louis University School of Law. I'm planning on going into criminal defense with the public defender's office, at least for a while anyway. I might consider ACLU or something like that later on. :hi:

8. PD's office is a great way to get trial experience
I'm thinking about doing criminal this summer both because I find interesting / fun and it's the best way to get court hours in.

I'm neglecting my professional responsibility research paper right now to check on DU - but I better get back to work, this puppy's due in a week and a half and I'm not smart enough to whip up a "48 Hour Wonder" these days.

9. I worked at the PD office this past summer
It was a great experience. I loved everything about it. Next summer I'll actually be able to "practice" (under the supervision of a lawyer) as a Rule 13 student. I'm looking forward to it.
Good luck with your professional responsibility paper, northersoul. I'm taking that class next semester.

10. graduated four years ago...
...and am working as a prosecutor. During law school, I interned at a prosecutor's office. It was great experience that gave me opportunity to handle a case from charging to sentencing. It was invaluable experience that helped the resume--as well as making connections in the industry.

11. I'm trying to be!
I'm currently applying to be in the Fall class somewhere. Since I'm from Virginia, and there are so many great schools there, that's where I'm aiming.

It is important for me to go to school in a blue county though. After living in Virginia, Indiana, and Texas, I need some democratic companionship.

My background is Environmental Engineering, and I hope to go into Environmental Law. One day, I hope to work at the EPA, and prosecute polluters. So we need a democratic president!!

12. Did you read Crimes against Nature
by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.? It will make your blood boil, knowing what Bush and Co. are doing to the environment.

16. Yup. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a great guy . . . he's worked
long and hard as an environmental activist and an environmental law attorney . . . http://www.riverkeeper.org/our_bio_rkennedy.php

btw, RFKJr is a co-host on AirAmerica's "Ring of Fire" program http://www.airamericaradio.com/shows/ringoffire/

17. I read it!
I read this finally, and you are so right about my blood boiling. I couldn't even read more than a few chapters at a time, because I would start cursing at the book!

Good recommendation, Evergreen Emerald!

And on a side note, I will be doing law school in a blue state this fall. I'm going to Lewis & Clark, in Portland, Oregon.

15. Well. If you want a "blue state" law school and you are . . .
interested in Environmental Law, take a gander at this school:

Vermont Law School (VLS) at http://www.vermontlaw.edu/ . . . And their separate environmental law journal at http://www.vjel.org/index.php

I've heard (from peers who are VLS alums) that it's a great little private school, the sole law school in Vermont. Great faculty. Great student body. Picture-perfect old New England setting. And you cannot beat the cultural environment of Vermont!
http://www.prelawinsider.com/news57030908.aspx

If a small private law school in Vermont that's got great a reputation and credentials in Environmental Law isn't your bag, then there's always Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts (the best "blue state") that has good Environmental Law programs at http://www.law.harvard.edu/academics/elp/

Good luck!

19. Take a look at my alma matter also - Northeastern Law School
Its in Boston (blue state qualified) and is perhaps one of the most liberal-leaning and progressive law school you will find. It utilizes a co-op style of study, meaning that you do your traditional first year and then, for the remaining two years, alternate between 11 weeks of classroom work and 11 weeks of full-time internship. I'll admit it doesn't have a very strong environmental law program, but since you can create your own internship programs you can seek out employers that are in the environmental field and work for them. Thereby getting a level of real-world environmental law study not necessarily available even at the schools with the best environmental law programs. It is an unique way of learning law and one which receives nearly universal applause when I've described it to practicing attorneys.

FYI - Northeastern is also extremely committed to public interest law.

I'd be happy to tell you more, just send a private message if you want.

Good luck!
