"Tort" reform?
When the Repugs speak of capping lawsuit awards to keep medical costs down we all know that is a smokescreen lie.
However, the MSM only focuses on the medical side.
Would, as I like to call it, "victim compensation reduction" also apply to injury suits levied against all types of corporations?

As a side note: Notice how the CON "reforms" only focus on person-to-corporation suits and not corporate-to-corporate compensation suits.
Yeah, the repugs are really for the Little guy aren't they?

1. "tort reform" = corporate free pass
the biggest giveaway to the GOP's most loyal supporters, IMHO.

How many MD's are actually left-wing types? If med school is anything like law school, the doo-gooder types out W-A-A-Y outnumbered by the BMW hunters . . .

2. Tort Reform protected the CEO's of Enron, Tyco and Worldcom
Tort Reform in Texas is the reason Kenneth Lay and his cohorts are getting away with the scandal at Enron. While people look at "Tort Reform" and think "Yeah, we need to stop frivolous lawsuits", they forget that a number of other bills and resolutions get packaged in with the "Tort Reform" legislation. Not only does the promotion of "Tort Reform" put a cap on compensation, but "Tort Reform" also includes legislation that will limit how, why and where people can bring lawsuits against corporations. As a result, it will be near impossible to bring a lawsuit against corrupt CEO's, such as Kenneth Lay, because lawyers won't be able to get a case into a courtroom. Greg Palast covers this pretty well in his book "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy".

3. My understanding
is that tort reform will only cap non-economic damages, not economic damages. This being the case, most corporations won't really be affected since they rarely, if ever, sue for non-economic damages.

4. So tell me...
What should the cap be on non-economic damages when a corporation flushes your retirement away and screws you out of your future because some CEO's wanted to be creative with the accounting? Yes... Corporations rarely sue for non-economic damages, but they get sued for non-economic damages all the time because of this kind of crap. Tell me... How much is your future worth??? 250,000 dollars???
