I think a sufficient majority would (the eternal optimist in me I guess), but shudder to think of the reaction by the far right nutjobs out there. I sure hope the secret service is on their "A" game if Obama wins in 2008.

4. in a broad sense...

it would be the cross section of the US that still thinks there shouldn't be any "race mixing", or that its a shame George Wallace never got elected President, or that Hurricane Katrina was all Mayor Nagin's fault and W's vacation should not have been interrupted. And there are far more of these folks out there than the MSM would have you believe.

In addition, I'd include decent people who are caucasian, which would include white progressives and most (but certainly not all) Democrats. The eternal optimist in me ferverntly hopes the latter outnumbers the former.

I realize that as an increasing number of citizens are product of parents of differing races/ethnicities, the lines blur. But there is a general sense of "old school white America" that I'm trying to get at. The grandkids of Ozzie and Harriet, if you will.

3. Unfortunately, Obama already has SS protection

Aside from Clinton (who has it because she is a former First Lady), he is the only Presidential candidate under such protection. Apparently, this is due to threats on his life that have happened since he announced.
