The GOP is finally taking steps to rein in the National Security Agency’s warrantless spying program.

Or so it wants us to think.

But the so-called safeguards would actually rein in very little. In fact, they would actually put a stamp of approval on the very activities that were outlawed in 1978 by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. <snip>

Our government ignored repeated warnings, overlooked crucial information and dismissed fears of attacks. Now it wants to gather even more information. <snip>
